More seats, more space

The new fleets of Hitachi trains will substantially increase capacity for passengers across Scotland by offering more space and more comfort. They will have thousands of extra seats per day, helping commuters travel to work at peak times, and leisure travellers explore, with a more pleasant travelling experience. There will be more luggage storage and dedicated cycle spaces, recognising the increasing needs of rail passengers.

Smoother, quieter, greener… connected

Our all-electric commuter trains include the Class 385 trains, operating across the Scottish central belt. They provide smoother and quieter journeys for passengers as well as less diesel pollution and fumes in stations. They will have power sockets at each seat and free WiFi.

Our intercity trains include the Azuma for London North Eastern Railway and 19 new Class 800 trains for First Transpennine. They are one of the most advanced passenger trains on the UK rail network, harnessing our Japanese bullet train technology, enabling them to accelerate faster than existing trains. Their speed, extra capacity and improved comfort will transform Scotland’s cross-border rail services with hybrid technology, switching seamlessly mid-journey between electric and diesel power; helping to improve emissions.
